From Foxtails to Cocktails

Brandy Greenwell is a native of Loudoun County, Virginia, and has spent most of her life in and out of Middleburg. As a student at Foxcroft, she began working at the Finicky Filly, where the embers of her professional life were first lit. Many of the connections she made as a young shop girl remain part of her world today.

Brandy worked the Middleburg retail scene at Horse Radish, Lou Lou, and Lou Lou Too, while also being steeped in the professional horse community through her family’s breeding business, Bridon Irish Draughts. In 2014, she did what many in Middleburg eventually do and earned her real estate license—beginning with a mentorship at Washington Fine Properties, moving to a team at TTR Sotheby’s, and ultimately landing at Compass, where she works today as a top solo agent. For more than 30 years, she has been part of the Middleburg community.

When she isn’t working, Brandy is a single mom to amazing twins, Ashley (boy) and Leslie (girl), who attend Wakefield. She lives on a Middleburg family compound with her playful, octogenarian parents—who are always good for a story of love, frustration, or both. The household also includes a plethora of homebred Irish Draught horses and a rescue corgi named Duncan. Her ex-husband and baby-daddy remains an important part of her life and, naturally, a reliable source of good material. She has a small circle of fiercely loyal besties, but likes to consider everyone a friend.

Brandy enjoyed creative writing in high school and college and was later asked to write a regular column for the Middleburg Eccentric after the editor noticed how well-liked (and pithy) her Facebook statuses were in the early days of social media. She wrote for the paper for a decade. Her column was frequently the most-read article online, and even three years after her final piece, readers still asked for more—so she decided to go virtual.

Brandy writes from the heart, usually leaves at least one grammatical error so you know it’s not AI, and strives to be relatable, engaging, and humble. Life is hilarious. Adulting is hard. And her theory is that being genuine is always best. Enjoy.
